We’re still relatively early in the Vince Tyra era as the University of Louisville athletics director, but so far, so good.
When the school moved on from Tom Jurich in Sept. of 2017, many fans worried about the future of Louisville athletics. Regardless of how things, ended there is no denying Tom Jurich’s impact at the University of Louisville.
Nearly three years later, the future of Louisville Cardinal athletics looks very bright with Vince Tyra leading the way.
Brett McMurphy & Jeff Goodman of the Stadium Sports Network are currently putting together grades for each athletic director from each power five conference.
Vince Tyra’s A- grade is the best of any full member of the ACC.
Stadium Analysis: Vince Tyra was hired in March of 2018 and quickly replaced football coach Bobby Petrino and interim basketball coach Scott Padgett. Tyra is a local guy who played baseball at Kentucky and was a businessman prior to his hiring. Tyra hired Chris Mack from Xavier in what was pretty much a no-brainer and it’s worked well thus far. He also brought on Scott Satterfield from Appalachian State in 2019. Satterfield went 8-5 this past season with an appearance in the Music City Bowl.

It’s somewhat surprising that Notre Dame was included despite not being a full league member. Athletic directors at Syracuse, Florida State and Virginia were not graded due to how recent they’ve been hired.<
