The son of a former University of Louisville basketball legend will lead the athletics department at the school on an interim basis.
Reports surfaced earlier Tuesday morning that Vince Tyra will serve as the UofL interim director. The school’s interim president, Greg Postel, held a press conference this afternoon to make it official.
Tyra, 51, is the former CEO at ISCO Industries in Louisville. He’s the son of former Cardinal basketball legend Charlie Tyra, who was the programs first consensus first team All American in 1957.
The younger Tyra was a star baseball player at Trinity High School in Louisville and played collegiate at the University of Kentucky. Tyra became a member of the UofL Foundation Board in February. He is not believed to have interest in the position long term.
