Two of Bobby Petrino’s former assistant coaches have landed on their feet.
Former Louisville offensive line coach Mike Summers will reportedly take on the same position for Lane Kiffin at Florida Atlantic.
Summers worked for Petrino during both stints at Louisville. He was hired by Petrino the second time in January of 2017 after serving as the offensive line coach at Florida. He followed Petrino to the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and was the associated head coach at Arkansas during Bobby’s time in the SEC.
Former safeties coach Ryan Beard has reportedly been hired as the special teams coach for Jim McElwain at Central Michigan.
Beard never spent a full season as an assistant coach at Louisville. He was hired as the safeties coach for the 2018 season, but was let go along with Petrino on Nov. 11. Beard was a defensive quality control coach from 2015-17.
Ryan was one of three family members on Petrino’s staff at Louisville. He was married to Bobby’s daughter, Katie.
A total of five former Petrino staffers have been hired since the 2018 season came to an end — Lonnie Galloway (WR’s coach, North Carolina), Brian Van Gorder (LB’s coach/associated head coach, Bowling Green), Grady Brown (passing game coordinator/DB’s coach).<
