The kids are back in school, you’re at work (you may have been yesterday), so that means The Weekend That Was is goin up on a Tuesday. Sorry guys, I had to make that joke. But before we get started lets get get sad that Cardinal Basketball is quiet until Sunday.
Its basically a bye week kids, and this eight day spread will be the longest between games this year. Let’s enjoy it as much as we can.
You’re probably aware that the Louisville Cardinals weren’t very good against the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday. An atrocious shooting performance (29 percent) was the big story as Louisville fell to Duke 63-52. The Cards never got a real grasp on the game, and yeah things were not very cool.
As for how I feel about the loss, it sucks but we knew this could happen with Louisville’s shooting. The only thing we can hope for is that the Cards bounce back, and return to defensive form. On to the next one.
In further sad Louisville basketball news:
Montrezl Harrell informed me he is not currently a captain on the Louisville basketball team. More on ESPN 680 and http://t.co/3occ14WFhK

Not much information on this one, will be interesting to see how Rick Pitino responds.

This tweet was retweeted by every citizen of Shaker Heights, Ohio. I’m proud of it.
Saturday was also a massive day for Louisville football recruiting, who hosted an enormous 18 recruits. Nine current commitments were among the attendees, and hopefully more would join that list. That is yet to be the case, but don’t take this as a panic moment.
Louisville is still poised for one of if not its best class ever. They also got a head start on some 2016 recruits. Most importantly, Coach Bobby Petrino appears to have solidified four star QB Lamar Jackson, who is a crucial get. His signing could help Louisville land a few other Florida standouts.
Insiders say that several top recruits left their visits very impressed, and with signing day just two weeks away it won’t take long to find out how successful the coaches were.
Baseball season is about to get started, and Louisville appears to be set for another strong year. D1Baseball.com has ranked the Cardinals 11th in their preseason poll.
The Lady Cards continue to dominate in their first season as ACC members. The women are ranked 4th in the country in this week’s AP poll. This week they will face Miami and #23 Syracuse.
Gorgui Dieng nailed his first career three-pointer at the halftime buzzer. It was pretty cool.

Greg Scruggs is the only Cardinal that will make the trip to the Super Bowl. If he wins, he will be the 28th Louisville alum to nab a championship ring.
Speaking of Super Bowl, I have to say I felt really bad about losing to Duke until I saw the incredible choke job of the Green Bay Packers. Also, if you blame Brandon Bostic, you’re truly ignoring the total collapse Green Bay had gone through.
Either way, this Super Bowl should be way better than last year’s and that’s cool.
Finally, in non-Louisville (but sorta Louisville news,) Yo Gotti dropped a new mixtape. As our own Brandon Zellers has told you, he is a Chris Jones look alike. I fully expect Chris Jones to drop 40 at Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Keep it tuned to The Cardinal Connect the entire week, as we explore what’s next for Louisville basketball and the building football recruiting hype.
See ya next week kids.<
