The Rundown: Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Rutgers is typically the type of team you don’t take too serious. The Scarlet Knights have been one of the worst teams in the Big East over the past decade. Louisville has a 9-1 record against Rutgers since joining the Big East. Head Coach Mike Rice is in his second year and appears to be the man for the job. However, this year’s team is very young and inexperienced. They’re just 12-11 on the season and 4-6 in Big East play. They have some bad losses on the season, but they also have a couple of notable wins over Florida and UConn.

Rutgers is led by freshman guard Eli Carter who is averaging 13 points and 3 rebounds per game. Carter is a high level scorer. He played a huge part in Rutgers’ upset against Florida scoring 31 points. Junior forward Dane Miller is the most experienced player on the team and is one of the better defenders in the conference. Freshman Kadeem Jack was the highest rated freshman, but is just returning from a foot injury. He hasn’t played up to his potential yet, but the kid has a lot of talent.

The Cards opened as a 10.5 point favorite. That sounds fair considering Rutgers’ record, but don’t be surprised if this is a close low scoring game. Both teams are tough defensively and have trouble scoring at times. Louisville should win this one easy, but Rutgers is the type of team that will beat you if you don’t execute.
