Mike Decourcy of the Sporting News recently wrote an article where he ranked the top ten college basketball coaching jobs. Not only did Louisville not make the list, but Decourcy didn’t list one school from the Big East.
1. North Carolina
5. Ohio St.
You can view the full list here:
The University of Louisville Men’s basketball program has generated more revenue than any other program in the country for seven consecutive years. In my opinion, that alone would make it a top five job. Not to mention, Louisville has the nicest arena in college basketball, and a great fan base. The program has had just three coaches in the last 60 years, and two of them are Hall of Famers.
I have no beef with UNC and UCLA at one and two, but Texas at 3 is a joke. Rick Barnes has taken the program to new levels, but it is still a football school. Kentucky is a great job, but Tubby Smith basically being forced out and the whole Billy Gillispie era make it slightly less appealing. Ohio St. at 5 is ridiculous in my opinion. There is a lot of talent in the state of Ohio, but the only sport they care about in Columbus is football.
Maryland making the list is just stupid. Decourcy claims that the D.C./Maryland/Northern Virginia might be the richest talent mine in the country. Not only do I not agree with that, but most of the kids from that area never go to Maryland.
