Cardinal Basketball

The Curse Of Karen Sypher

Since Karen Sypher came into the picture, it seems like the only time the program is mentioned in the media it is surrounding something negative. Now that the trial is underway hopefully a conviction can help put this behind us. Let’s take a look at the direction our program has been going  in since April 18th, 2009.

  •  April 18, 2009 – ESPN confirms that Rick Pitino is working with the F.B.I. in hopes to bring an indictment upon someone who is trying to extort millions of dollars from him.
  • April 22, 2009 – Class of 2010 5 star recruit and Cardinal commit, Jeremy Tyler decides to drop out of high school after his junior year and play professionally in Isreal.
  • April 24, 2009 – Karen Cunigan Sypher is charged with extortion.
  • August 4, 2009 – Class of 2010 5 Star Fabricio de Melo commits to Syracuse after being considered a lock for Louisville.
  • August 12, 2009 – Details of Pitino and Cypher’s encounter become public. UK fan loads up on shit talking ammunition from now until the end of time. I will never eat at Porcini’s again!
  •  October 10, 2009 – Senior captain Jerry Smith and sophomore center Terrence Jennings are arrested at Kye’s restaurant in Jeffersonville, IN.
  • November 17, 2009 – Louisville opens up the season without Peyton Siva as the starting point guard.
  • November ?, 2009 – At some point in the month of November, the jump shot of senior guard Jerry Smith was somehow lost, and was never seen again.
  • December 05, 2009 – Louisville loses by 18 to a bad Charlotte team in Freedom Hall. Samardo Samuels had his manhood taken from him, by a 6th year senior who has had four knee surgeries. Samardo from then on was refered to as Samantha Samuels.
  • January 02, 2010- Louisville loses to Kentucky for the first time since 2007. Demarcus Cousins elbows Jerad Swopshire in the face, which results in a Reggie Delk technical, UK shoots two free throws and gets the ball back.
  • January 30, 2010 – Louisville leads late at 9th ranked WVU, Joe Mazzulla dribbles the ball off of his head out-of-bounds and the ref decides to give the Mountaineers the ball back, which resulted in a Da’Sean Butler game winner.
  • Febuary 12, 2010 – ESPN reports that the New Jersey Nets and Rick Pitino are negotiating a deal that would make him the Nets next coach, on that same night Louisville is blown out by St. Johns.
  • Febuary 23, 2010 – Louisville leads then #11 ranked Georgetown by 6 at half time, but gives up 25 second half points to G-Town’s Austin Freeman. Louisville loses by ten and only scores 25 points in the second half.
  • March 20, 2010 – Louisville starts the first round of the NCAA tournament with a 22-4 deficit to the California Golden Bears. Cal wins by 15 and puts an end to a rather disappointing season.

  • May 05, 2010 – Junior-to-be Samardo Samuels decides to forgo his remaining two years of eligibility at Louisville and enter the NBA draft.
  • May 25, 2010 – Senior guard Preston Knowles is wanted for questioning, for assaulting his girlfriend’s step father. (no charges filed, but embarrassing to say the least.)

  • July 6, 2010 – Justin Coleman, the main attraction of the 2010 recruiting class will likely not qualify.
