Troy head coach Neal Brown’s name was mentioned as one of the many potential candidate to take over at Louisville after Bobby Petrino was fired.

With the top target already turning Vince Tyra down, Brown’s name isn’t the hottest name on the board, but he’s still being mentioned as a potential option.

Prior to landing the gig at Troy, Brown spent two seasons at his alma mater, Kentucky. The Danville native played receiver at Kentucky for two seasons before transferring to UMass to finish his playing career. Brown has taken shots at Louisville on more than one occasion.

All of this shouldn’t keep him from being a candidate. If Brown can win, that’s all that matter. But with that said, given his history, I’d say he’d have a shorter leash than the other candidates. He’d also have to prove he can win here before a segment of the fans would fully embrace him.

I’m sure there are plenty of Louisville fans who don’t have an issue with Brown’s connection to Kentucky. However, there appears to be a segment of the fan base that it would take some time to be sold on him.
