Comparing Satterfield’s Rapid Rebuild To Other First Year Power Five Coaches

(Photo: Rob Kinnan / USA Today)

Scott Satterfield may not end up winning any of the various annual coach of the year awards, but he belongs in the conversation for all of them.

With two games left, Satterfield has tripled Louisville’s win total from a year ago and his rapid rebuild hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Satterfield is one of eleven first year power five coaches in college football this season. Each situation is different, but regardless of the various circumstances Satterfield’s results are just as good, if not better, than any other first year power five coach.

As mentioned, each situation is different. For example, Ohio State’s Ryan Day was left with one of the best teams in the country. He isn’t exactly rebuilding. Geoff Collins at Georgia Tech and Chris Klieman at Kansas State didn’t take over dumpster fire situations. They took over for coaches who simply retired.

Below you’ll see how each first year power five head coach is doing in his first year compared to what he inherited.
