In his first career game in the Chinese Basketball Association, former Louisville Cardinal Russ Smith put on quite a show. Smith finished with 64 points in a losing effort for his Luoyang team.
Smith inked a deal with Luoyang earlier this month after previously playing in Turkey and in the NBA D-League.
After graduating from UofL in 2014, Smith was taken in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, but the pick was immediately traded to New Orleans. Halfway through his rookie season Smith was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
After drawing interest from a handful of NBA teams to join their summer league roster in 2016, Smith ended up playing for the Portland Trailblazers. In four summer league games, Smith averaged 8.3 points.
With his contract in China lasting until late August, Smith won’t be able to play in the NBA’s Summer League.
