Russ Smith Lands Opportunity With Minnesota Timberwolves

Russ Smith hasn’t played in an NBA game since Dec. 27 of 2015.

Once you get bounced from the league, it’s hard to get back in. With that said, Smith has at least been given a shot to showcase his talent to one of the thirty NBA teams.

Smith was one of a handful of players to participate in this weekend’s free agent camp held by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Since being waved by the Memphis Grizzlies more than two years ago, Russ Smith has had various stops in his professional career.

The former first team All American has since played in the G-League, Turkey and in two separate leagues in China. Things didn’t go well for Russ in Turkey, but he’s become a superstar in China.

For the NBL’s Luoyang Zhonghe Smith averaged 60 points per game. He later signed with the CBA’s Fujian Sturgeons and averaged 33 points and seven assists per game.

Smith has the talent to play in the NBA. Hopefully a team will take a chance on him in the off-season.
