During a radio interview last week Rick Pitino said that he likely wouldn’t use the one remaining scholarship for next season as long as Deng Adel returns. Since the interview, Pitino and his staff have hosted two visitors who are looking to join a program for the upcoming season.
Tunisian forward Wassef Methnani, an under the radar prospect from the 2017 class took an official visit to Louisville on Tuesday. Wright State graduate transfer Mark Alstork was on campus on Wednesday for an unofficial visit. Despite drawing interest from Pitino and his staff, it doesn’t sound like either Methnani or Alstork will be joining the Louisville program.
According Jody Demling of CardinalAuthority.com, Rick Pitino and his staff have passed on adding another player for the 2017-18 season and will not use the available scholarship.
This likely means that the staff is confident that Deng Adel will be back for his junior season. Adel has until May 24 to make a decision and is expected to continue working out for NBA teams this week.
Since announcing that he’d test the NBA Draft waters, Adel has worked out with Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Chicago (twice) and Milwaukee. Workouts with the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to happen within the next few days.
I assume Adel has informed the staff that he intends on returning to UofL, but still wants to take advantage of the new rules, which allow him to participate in NBA workouts until May 24.
