Reece Gaines Expected To Be Named New Asst. Coach At Bellarmine

Mike Rutherford of CardChronicle.com is reporting that former Louisville guard Reece Gaines is expected to be named as Scotty Davenport’s newest assistant coach at Bellarmine University.

Gaines will replace Carl White who recently left Bellarmine to become the new boy’s varsity coach at Shawnee High School. Gaines is expected to be formally introduced as the new assistant coach within the next week. Scotty Davenport was an assistant coach at Louisville during Gaines’ time as a Cardinal from 1999-2003. He is the fourth all time leading scorer in Louisville history and earned third team AP All American honors during his senior season.

Gaines was taken by the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2003 NBA draft. He spent three years in the NBA playing for the Orlando Magic, the Houston Rockets and the Milwaukee Bucks. Since 2006 Gaines has played professionally in Italy, Greece, France, Austria and also spent some time in the NBDL.

Congratulations to Reece. I can honestly say without hesitation that he was my all time favorite player as a kid. I’m embarrassed by the emotions that come over me when I watch this video.
