The Western Kentucky basketball program recently begging John Calipari and Kentucky to schedule a game for the upcoming season led to an interesting conversation during my radio show on Wednesday morning.
Would the regular season for CFB be better if P5 programs only played conference foes & other P5 programs? Same for CBB but P6 with the Big East included?

I’m not a hater of lower level programs in college football or college basketball, but I’m not exactly a fan of having them on the schedule.
Clearly not everyone agrees with me, judging from the Twitter poll, but I’ve yet to hear someone tell me what the bigger conference programs in both basketball and football truly gain from having these games on the schedule.
College football would have a better product if the four non conference games for power five teams were against other power five teams. The same can be said for the non conference schedule for power six college basketball teams.
As much as that may hurt the lower level programs, it’s the truth.
