With the Louisville Cardinals coming off their worst week of the season, team captains Dwayne Sutton, Ryan McMahon and Malik Williams called for a players only meeting.
Sutton shared the news of the meeting during Tuesday’s press conference.
“We had a team meeting with the players,” Sutton said. “We talked about what it’s going to take to get back to our winning ways. I feel like we’re all with positive spirits and we’re ready to get better and get some wins.”
“It was pretty much the captains,” Sutton said when asked who decided to have the meeting. “We needed to discuss what it’s going to take to get back to our winning ways. Dropping two games in conference is not something we wanted to do, but it happened and I think it’s important for us to learn from it and move forward.”
Chris Mack later confirmed that he wasn’t a part of the meeting and that he didn’t task the captains to put it together.
“I think it shows that they care,” Mack said. “It’s their team. I tell these guys that all the time. This is the way Dwayne, Steven, Fresh, Ryan and Jordan will go out. It’s the way they’ll be remembered. It’s important to them. I’m glad that it means that much to them. Now we have to figure out a way to be better than we were in the last two outings.”
“I know there are guys in that locker room that care about the success of this year’s team and that’s why they met.”
The Cards will look to snap their two game losing streak on Wednesday night against Syracuse.<
