Chris Mack’s 2021 recruiting class could expand by the end of the month.
Louisville target, Eric Van Der Heijden, a 6-foot-9, swing-man from Raleigh, North Carolina, will announce his college decision next Friday, July 31.
Van Der Heijden picked up an offer from Chris Mack in late June and had the Cards featured in his updated top ten earlier this month.
Iowa, Maryland, Wake Forest, Marquette, Texas, Providence, Clemson, Ole Miss and Cincinnati all made the list alongside Louisville.
247Sports rates Van Der Heijden as a four-star prospect and he’s ranked as the 72nd best overall prospect in the 2021 class.
“A versatile forward with plus size for a combo forward. Van Der Heijden moves fluidly and is fine athletically,” Evan Daniels of 247Sports says of Van Der Heijden. “He impresses with his skill. He’s a good passer with either hand and has impressive vision and feel. He also impacts the game with his shooting. He’s very good off the catch and has range well past the three-point stripe. Areas for improvement include ball handling, creating off the bounce and guarding perimeter players. That said, there’s upside with his skill, positional size and shooting ability.”
The North Carolina native has solid basketball genes. Both his parents played the sport professionally and his older brother, Jake, currently plays at Bucknell.
Louisville is believed to be the favorite for Van Der Heijden. His commitment would give Louisville four four-star prospects. Three that are all ranked in the top 100 in the 2021 class, and El Ellis, a four star guard who is ranked as the top junior college prospect in the country.<
