Louisville Loses Top Ranked Commits On Signing Day

Chris Humphrey

Two of the more highly ranked commitments in Louisville’s 2020 class had a last minute change of heart on the first day of the early signing period.

It started with three-star defensive end Josh Griffis flipping back to Florida State just ten days after flipping from FSU to Louisville.

Later in the afternoon four-star quarterback Chubba Purdy annnounced that instead of signing with Louisville he’d be signing with Florida State.

Both Griffis and Purdy would’ve been big gets for Satterfield’s staff, but there’s no doubt that losing Purdy hurts the most.

The quarterback position isn’t believed to be an area where you need a lot of help. Micale Cunningham had a breakout season, Evan Conley helped you win games as a true freshman and three-star QB Tee Webb signed with the Cards.

With all of that said, having a guy committed that long and flip at the last minute stings. Especially considering Mike Norvell as only been at FSU for about a week and it didn’t take him long to steal Louisville’s top ranked commit.

For what it’s worth, Purdy didn’t blindside the staff with the decision. He made the tough phone call to let them know he wouldn’t be signing with Louisville.
