The Louisville Cardinals were without nine players on Saturday afternoon in the 42-35 loss to Virginia Tech.
The program didn’t initially disclose why the nine players were unavailable, but Scott Satterfield confirmed after the game that it was Covid-19 related. It sounds like the majority of the nine players were held out due to contact tracing.
The following players missed Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech.
DL Micah Bland
DL Ja’Darien Boykin
DL Malik Clark
DL Yaya Diaby
P Ryan Harwell
S Isaiah Hayes
DL Dayna Kinnaird
LB Monty Montgomery
DL Tabarius Peterson
When asked about their status on Monday afternoon, Satterfield said that he anticipates that all nine players will miss their second straight game when the Cards take on Virginia this weekend.
“We ended up having one positive on Wednesday. We isolated some guys with that. Then Friday we’re getting ready to go, and we get the testing that we do, we don’t really find those out on Friday until the nighttime. We actually found out a couple guys were positive on Friday night. Then, in turn, you start with the contact tracing, so you end up getting some more guys. So that’s kind of how it all went down.
Saturday morning, when the guys get up to get breakfast, we have guys isolated, taking them out and those types of things, which just so happened to affect the defense as we all saw. A lot of our defensive line was out: Monty Montgomery, Isaiah Hayes, you know. With that, those guys are going to be out. It’s going to be a couple weeks with the protocols. If you’re contact traced, you’re out 14 days. If you do actually have the virus, then you can actually come back a little bit sooner once you go through the protocols and get all your testing done with that. I would anticipate that all those guys who missed last week will miss this week as well.”<
