Over the past few weeks there had been speculation that the Louisville football season opener could be moved up due to the Kentucky Derby being rescheduled for the first weekend of September.
On Monday morning the program officially announced that the week one match-up against NC State will be played Sept. 2, moving from the previously scheduled Sept. 3.

“We appreciate the NCAA, ACC, and NC State honoring our request for a date change for the opening game,” Vince Tyra said in an official press release. “We are trying to be thoughtful about the shared city resources needed to host a football game and Thurby at the same time.”
Kickoff time and network designation for the match-up will be available at a later date by ESPN.<
