The Louisville basketball program has been on top of the world for the last three months. At the college level, there is no higher achievement than cutting down the nets and claiming a national title. With that said, Rick Pitino and his team aren’t satisfied just yet. The returning players from last year’s team are hungry and ready to start a dynasty.
Kevin Ware spoke to the crowd at one of the annual Cardinal Caravan stops at Captains Quarters earlier this week. When asked about the keys for next season’s team, “definitely egos,” Ware says. “We’re coming off two Final Four’s in the last two years and a national championship. If we have ego, we’ll be in the NIT like Kentucky.”
“I feel like if everybody is together and not worried about individuals or being selfish, we’ll be fine,” Ware told the crowd. “I feel like we have the tools and the pieces to start a dynasty here and that’s what we’re trying to do.”
Louisville returns nearly 75% of their scoring from a team that won the national championship. However, the majority of the national media doesn’t predict Louisville will repeat in 2014. A couple of outlets have Louisville ranked as low as No. 7 in their preseason poll.
Although we’d all like to see this team get the respect they deserve, I think we can expect this team to be hungry and ready to prove just how good they are. Rarely can you come off of a national championship season and have motivation to prove people wrong.<
