Javian Hawkins Leads All Power 5 Freshmen In Rushing Yards

Chris Humphrey

Scott Satterfield has shined as a play-caller in his first season at the helm in Louisville. Despite taking over for a guy who had previously been regarded as an offensive genius, Satterfield has had no problem putting points on the scoreboard.

Redshirt freshman Javian Hawkins has been one of the many pleasant surprises on the offensive side of the ball this season. The 5-foot-9, 183-pound, speedster was able to redshirt in 2018 after playing in less than four games and getting just two carries. In 2019 Hawkins is averaging 107 yards per game throughout the first seven games.

Hawkins leads all power five freshman in rushing and ranks 15th nationally.

With 621 rushing yards through seven games Hawkins currently ranks 7th in program history for rushing yards by a freshman.

Hawkins is on pace to become the record for rushing yards by a freshman even if Louisville doesn’t make a bowl game.

With 126 rushing yards on Saturday he became the first player in 27 games to rush for over 100 yards against Clemson.
