Rick Pitino told the media in early January that Cardinal forward Jared Swopshire would miss the entire 2010-2011 season, due to a nagging groin injury that was healing much slower than expected. It came as somewhat of a surprise when Pitino decided not to give Swopshire, a then junior, a medical redshirt due to the lack of scholarships.
A very reliable source told me earlier this month that Swopshire would in-fact get that redshirt season. Swopshire is entering his fourth year at Louisville, but will be classified as a redshirt junior and have two years of eligibility left.
I think this is a great move by Pitino and staff. Swopshire is the type of player you want on your team. It may take Jared a little while to knock the rust off, after missing an entire year of basketball, but once he gets back into the swing of things, Swop could be a big part of this team.
