Former Louisville pass rusher James Hearns was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Friday afternoon, but it didn’t take long to find a new employer.
The same day that he was waived, the Green Bay Packers decided to sign Hearns and welcome him to their training camp.
This move makes sense, considering the Packers lost starting linebacker James Ryan to a torn ACL in practice last week. Ryan is expected to be played in injured reserve for the 2018 season, leaving a roster spot open in Green Bay.
Hearns signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent after totaling 15 sacks, 24.5 tackles for losses and nine forced fumbles over his final two seasons at Louisville.
The Florida native spent a lot of time on the defensive line during his college career, but I’d say Green Bay see’s him as a linebacker.
