Saturday, April, 6 – Pitino’s horse, Goldencents won the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby qualifying for the Kentucky Derby in May.
Saturday, April, 6 – Louisville defeated Wichita State to advance to the National Championship, despite being down by twelve points in the second half.
Monday, April, 8 – Pitino officially welcomed into the Naismith Hall of Fame at the championship ceremony in Atlanta.
Monday, April, 8 – Pitino received a $2.7 million bonus, the accumulation of three years deferred bonuses.
Monday, April, 8 – Louisville won the National Championship, becoming the first coach ever to win a championship at two different schools.
Monday, April, 8 – Pitino received another $150,000 for winning the National Championship, putting his earning for this year over $6 million.<
