Georgia’s athletic teams are known as the Bulldogs, and their mascot name is Hairy Dawg. Georgia has some very prestigious alumni to go along with their deep rooted history.

crawford long

Crawford Long was a Georgia alum that invented something that is used every day in American medicine. Long harnessed the power of inhaled diethyl ether in 1842. More or less Crawford Long invented anesthesia. Long died of a stroke on June 16, 1878 after helping to deliver a baby.

IronE Singleton is best known to audiences as T-Dog in the world of “The Walking Dead.” Singleton attended UGA back when the E at the end of his name was still lowercase. I don’t watch The Walking Dead, so I don’t know if T-Dog is alive or dead currently, but I’m sure he’s not going to stay alive for much longer. Also I think someone needs to find Carl again, or something.

Chef Alton Brown is a real Food Network triple O.G. Brown has hosted such shows as Good Eats, Iron Chef America, and Feasting on Asphalt. Brown is a Georgia alum that can do more than make your oven holler mercy. Alton Brown did the cinematography on some of the music videos for fellow Georgia alums R.E.M in the mid 90’s before launching his star on Food Network. Brown currently is the host of popular cooking competition show Cutthroat Kitchen on Food Network.

Georgia has been coached by Mark Richt since 2001. The football team has a 135-48 record under Richt. The Cardinals have never faced off against the Bulldogs in football. Georgia finished second in the SEC east with a record of 9-3. Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham held the same position with Georgia during the 2013-2014 season. Athens, Georgia is 477 miles away from Louisville.
