After a leg injury forced Dominique Brown to miss the entire season last year, he has now morphed his frame into that of a Running Back rather than a Quarterback. During Louisville’s Spring Game in…

After a leg injury forced Dominique Brown to miss the entire season last year, he has now morphed his frame into that of a Running Back rather than a Quarterback. During Louisville’s Spring Game in April the redshirt junior rushed for 79 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns (8.77 yard per carry average). If those numbers weren’t eye opening enough, he also caught six passes for 30 yards. At this point there should be no question who will carry the load for the Cards out of the backfield for the upcoming season.

The question that likely will not be answered until the season begins is that of the rotation of the other studs in the stable.

Ten games into last season prior to suffering a season ending knee injury Senorise Perry had emerged as the top back and amassed 705 yards on the ground with 11 touchdowns. At seasons end those numbers still held up for 2nd on the team in rushing yardage and topped the team in rushing touchdowns. At this point it is fairly uncertain if Perry will be ready to go for the September 1st match-up against Ohio. If he is ready to go, he’s likely the top contender for playing time. If he isn’t 100%…expect a redshirt.

After redshirting last season, Brandon Radcliff saw an opportunity this Spring to make a name for himself to those that paid attention. With only five carries, Radcliff rushed for 56 yards for an average of just over 11 yards per clip. Those are the kind of numbers that can make you a household name. If Perry picks up a redshirt, you can bet that Radcliff will be contention for playing time.

Often forgotten by some but certainly not us is redshirt sophomore Corvin Lamb. When the man his teammates call Lambo touched the ball last season as a redshirt freshman, he flat out made things happen. In a win over Rutgers he rushed for 37 yards on six carries for an average of just over six yards per carry. On a screen pass against Syracuse he blazed down the field for a 53 yard touchdown; seemingly several steps faster than anyone else on the field. Not only could Lambo work into the backfield rotation, but you can look for him in the kick return game as well. Likely the primary return guy.

It’s been said plenty before, but working through these type things are great problems to have.

It’s been a couple of months since we’ve had any update on the University of Miami scandal that was revealed in late 2011. Louisville assistant football coach Clint Hurtt is currently on administrative leave, due to his alleged involvement.

Prior to joining Charlie Strong’s staff at Louisville, Hurtt was the recruiting coordinator for Miami and was allegedly involved in multiple NCAA violations. The official notice of allegations that was sent to the University of Louisville accused Hurtt of receiving and providing impermissible benefits and unethical conduct for providing false and misleading information during the 23-month investigation.

According to Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald, Hurtt and fellow former Miami assistant Aubrey Hill had a hearing in with the NCAA committee on infractions last Friday in Indianapolis. No details from this hearing have been made public just yet. An official verdict is due in August.

Fortunately for Hurtt, some of the things he was initially accused of doing when this story first broke were no included in the official notice of allegations. The one allegation that could be extremely detrimental to Hurtt’s career, if proven to be true, is breaking rule 10.1. Lying to the NCAA during an investigation is a big no-no. The NCAA has shown no mercy on those who’ve done this in the past.

Hurtt has been on administrative leave since late March. With the official verdict coming in August, it looks like we may find out Hurtt’s future with the Louisville program before the season starts.

Robinson has always been considered to be one of the top ten centers in the 2014 class, but that was mostly based on his massive size and potential.

At the NBAPA top 100 camp last week Robinson showed that he’s recently added some polish to his game. He averaged 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds at the camp.

Robinson isn’t a name that you’ve heard mentioned with Louisville all that often in recent months, but assistant coach Wyking Jones’ hard work is paying off. “Next month, I plan on going to Louisville on an official visit,” Robinson tells Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports.

Ohio State, Georgetown and Kansas appear to be the three other schools that are in good shape with Robinson. He also has offers from Florida, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas and Georgia Tech, among others.

With Zach Price transferring and Stephan Van Treese entering his last year, it makes sense for Louisville to add a big man in the 2014 class. Especially since Chane Behanan and Montrezl Harrell could potentially leave early for the NBA draft at some point.

Last month Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater informed UofL that he didn’t want to be a part of any type of formal Heisman Campaign. That’s just the type of person that Teddy is. He doesn’t want a lot of attention for himself, he’d rather the spotlight be on the entire team.

I’m sure Teddy is aware of this, but if he has the season that he is expected to, he is going to be a Heisman candidate whether he likes it or not. Our friend Mark Blankenbaker of CardsandCats.com put together this phenomenal highlight mix of Teddy’s first two years at Louisville.

After watching that video, I’m not sure how you could not be excited for Louisville football in 2013. This may be our last ride with Teddy Hei5man, so make sure you enjoy it while you can.

If you don’t understand the significance of this, Pitino made it very clear at the 2012 Louisville basketball tip-off luncheon that Pitbull, or as Coach P refers to him as, “Mr. Worldwide,” was his favorite artist.

I’m not sure if this was a Father’s Day gift or not, but if it was, props to Ryan.

Shaqquan Aaron was one of the two current Louisville commits that competed at the NBA Players Association Top 100 camp last week. Aaron, a 6-foot-8 Seattle native got off to a bit of a slow start, but by the end of the camp, he was one of the more talked about prospects at the event.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to see Aaron play, the one word I would use to describe him is unique. There are plenty of prospects that range from 6-foot-7 to 6-foot-9 that belong in the post, but spend time on the perimeter because they have a decent skill set. That isn’t the case with Aaron. He is a legitimate 6-foot-8 guard.

Defense and overall body strength are a couple of things that Aaron needs to work out, but other than that he’s as skilled as it gets. He has great range on his jump shot and at 6-foot-8 he’s a matchup nightmare for perimeter defenders. Aaron’s best asset may be his ability to pass and find teammates in the open floor.

Following the NBA Player Assocation Top 100 Camp, Aaron made a significant climb in the 247Sports.com rankings for the 2014 class. Aaron is now considered a five-star prospect and is ranked as the 14th best overall player in the class.

The majority of next year’s team is already on campus working towards adding another banner to the Yum! Practice Facility. What do you think a guy has to do to get one of these hanging in my office?

Following his workout with the New York Knicks on Tuesday afternoon, Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com caught up with former Louisville big man Gorgui Dieng. Zagoria not only talked with Dieng about the upcoming NBA Draft, but also about next year’s Louisville team.

Despite losing two integral pieces in from the 2013 national championship team in Dieng and Peyton Siva, Rick Pitino is expected to have one of the best teams in the country in 2013-14. Louisville brings back nearly 75% of their scoring from last season and welcomes one of the best incoming backcourts in the country with the addition of Chris Jones, Terry Rozier and Anton Gill.

“I think they’re going to have a better team this year,” Dieng tells Zagoria.

“We always have a team. we always have a team,” he said. “Thats what Coach ‘P’ is all about – team. He doesn’t care who you are. You can be the best player but if you do something wrong, he’s going to sit you down. If you’re body fat is over nine percent, you won’t play.”

Replacing Peyton Siva and Gorgui Dieng is much easier said than done, but in regards to overall talent, I think Pitino will have more with next season’s group than he did in 2012-13. However, talent isn’t the only thing needed to win championships.

It’s entirely too soon to know just how good next year’s team will be, but I think this group fits Pitino’s style better than any team that he’s had in his Louisville tenure.
