Donovan Mitchell didn’t win the NBA’s official Rookie of the Year Award, but he’s still been able to collect some hardware for his special debut season as a professional.
In late May, Mitchell was voted as “Leader of the New School” by his peers. According to the NBPA, this award goes to “the rookie who rose to the occasion and proved they are a star in the making.”
On Wednesday night he was awarded an ESPY for “Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.”
“Don’t let anybody put limits on what you can do,” Mitchell said after winning the award. “People love to do that nowadays. Go out there and have fun and enjoy it. Enjoy life. Enjoy your passion, whatever it may be.”<
