News broke Monday night that University of Louisville dance coach Todd Sharp had been fired by the school.
Dance coaches getting fired wouldn’t typically be a huge piece of news in high level college athletics, but Sharp is arguably one of the most successful coaches in UofL history.
Sharp guided the Ladybirds to 14 national championships in his time with the program. The Ladybirds have won nine of the last ten national competitions, including the last four years, in the National Cheerleading Association Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The school initially declined to comment when asked about the situation, but through an open records request we’ve learned that Sharp was terminated for fiscal misconduct with athletic department funds. The school believes Sharp took roughly $40,000 over a two year period.
Sharp became nationally known in 2017 for his role in the Lifetime TV show, “So Sharp.” He has since resigned from his position as the dance coach at Floyd Central High School.<
