It was a long shot for David Padgett to have his interim tag removed and land the Louisville head coaching gig long term. With that said, most expected him to land on his feet coaching somewhere else.
Given that he won 22 games as a first year head coach under far from normal circumstances, I assumed Padgett had a real shot at landing a head coaching gig at a lower level program, or at least become an assistant somewhere.
For some reason, that didn’t happen. But fortunately Padgett has found work to keep him busy for the rest of the college basketball season.
Eric Crawford of WDRB caught up with Padgett on Tuesday night at Bellarmine’s game against Barry College.
Padgett told Crawford that this was the first basketball game he had been to since the last one he coached at the KFC Yum! Center. He also said that he’ll soon be joining ESPN as a college basketball color analyst.
The former Cardinal player and coach will make his ESPN debut on Jan. 6 as Rhode Island takes on Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 match-up.
