Former Cardinals

David Padgett Has A New Coaching Gig

Chris Humphrey

For the first time since leading the Louisville basketball program on an interim basis during the 2017-18 season former Cardinal David Padgett has landed a new coaching gig.

WAVE3 reports that Padgett has joined the North Oldham Middle School basketball program as a volunteer coach.

It was a long shot for Padgett to have his interim tag removed and land the Louisville head coaching gig long term. With that said, most expected him to land on his feet coaching somewhere following the 2017-18 season.

Given that he won 22 games as a first year head coach under far from normal circumstances, I assumed Padgett had a real shot at landing a head coaching gig at a lower level program, or at least become an assistant somewhere. For some reason, that didn’t happen.

Padgett joined ESPN as an color analyst last season and runs camps for kids throughout the summer in Louisville.

The University of Louisville Student Government Association honored Padgett as “Louisvillian of the Year” in 2018.

We now have a new favorite middle school basketball team!
