Acting UofL men’s basketball coach David Padgett met with the media on Wednesday afternoon to announce a hire to his coaching staff. Padgett has named veteran coach Trent Johnson as his assistant coach.
Johnson has 16-years of head coaching experience and most recently was the head coach at TCU from 2012-2016. His previous jobs were at LSU, Stanford and Nevada. Johnson’s career coaching record is 276–264 (.511).
“Trent Johnson I’ve known since I was in high school,” Padgett told reporter. “When he was an assistant coach at Stanford he recruited me. He then went to be the head coach at Nevada, obviously I grew up in Reno.
I don’t think I could’ve made a better hire. He’s been a head coach at Stanford, LSU and TCU. I’m surprised he even said yes considering how bad we beat his Stanford team in the NCAA Tournament at Rupp Arena.”
