Over the weekend Damarcus Smith received word from the NCAA that he did not get academically cleared by the clearing house to enroll early at Louisville and participate in spring practice. Despite being committed to Louisville since December of 2009, Smith made a visit to Central Florida over the weekend and told Jody Demling of the Courier-Journal that he enjoyed himself.
Demling caught up with him after his visit to Orlando, Fla., Smith said he was “just thinking right now. I have a lot on my mind.” He said the U of L coaches were aware of “what was going on,” and would have no other comment about colleges at this time.
The fact that Smith didn’t get cleared really makes this decision that much harder for him. With Teddy Bridgewater already enrolled at Louisville, he will now have leg up on Smith. He still plans on enrolling in the summer as of right now, but I really wouldn’t be surprised if Smith eventually decides to go elsewhere.<
