As soon as the Louisville fan base heard the great news about Teddy Bridgewater committing to the Cards, many started to question how it would affect Demarcus Smith. According to Smith, Louisville is still where he wants to be. Here are some quotes he gave the Courier-Journal earlier this afternoon.
Deep down in my heart, Louisville is where I want to be,” Smith said. “I can’t just make a decision based on emotion because someone else said they are coming there. I look forward to the competition.
“I am a competitor and deep down in my heart I know I am the best and I just have to keep working hard and try to come on there and prove it.”
I give a lot of credit to Smith for reacting in a very mature manner. Most kids his age would have immediately reopened their recruitment, but he chose to stay loyal to Charlie Strong and this city. Just because Bridgewater is ranked the #2 QB in the country doesn’t mean he is an automatic lock for the starting gig. Smith isn’t far from Teddy in the rankings. Rivals ranks Smith as the #11 dual threat QB in the country.
As far as being able to come in right away and play, I would take Smith over Bridgewater right now. Both are very raw and have tremendous upside, but Smith will be the better option right away.<
