Chris Mack’s team didn’t look quite as good as most expected in their season opening win against Nicholls last week. We saw some good things in the official debut of the Mack era, but despite the 13-point victory the game will a little too close for comfort down the stretch.
Realistically speaking, Thursday’s result was probably what we should’ve expected. With a new staff, new system and nearly every player having a different role than they did last season, this group will remain a work in progress over the next month or so.
Judging from Mack’s press conference on Monday afternoon it appears that he’s aware that it might take his team some time to put it all together. Headed into the second game of the year, Mack is more focused on the little things that his players can control.
The Southern Jaguars are the type of team that Louisville can likely defeat even if they don’t produce a great performance. Next week that changes. The Cards will take on No. 5 Tennessee next Wednesday. They’ll take on either No. 2 Kansas or No 24 Marquette the next day.
Louisville is favored by 26.5 points.
Southern is 0-2 with blowout losses to Alabama and Baylor.<
