Just a few days after Angel Rodriguez made his official visit to Louisville, Rick Pitino returned the favor and traveled to Miami last night to watch him play.
Excerpt from Jody Demling:
“After the visit will sit down and try to decide if he’ll sign early or late,” Miami Tropics AAU coach Art Alvarez said. “That’s what we’re looking at. He’s just not sure right now.”
Alvarez said Louisville coach Rick Pitino made a trip to Miami on Wednesday to watch Rodriguez work out at his high school. His visit to U of L was just last weekend.
“Louisville has a big-time legitimate shot,” Alvarez said. “He loved the visit to Louisville and likes the fact that he feels like he can play there right away. He’s in awe with coach Pitino.”
Rodriguez doesn’t have a high national ranking because he’s from Puerto Rico and didn’t get a ton of exposure on the summer AAU circuit. His high school coach is Shaky Rodriguez, who sent Gimel Martinez and Allen Edwards to Kentucky when Pitino was coaching there.
“The kids from Puerto Rico come here a little later and are not exposed as much during the summer time,” Alvarez said. “But there are not many point guards in the country better than this kid. (Pitino) is not going after somebody just left out there. He’s a diamond in the rough.”<
