The 5th ranked University of Louisville baseball team is on fire, entering this week’s ACC tournament on a 9 game winning streak. The Cardinals, who finished the regular season 46-10 overall and 22-8 in conference play, earned the #2 overall seed, finishing one game back of 3 rd ranked Miami.
The Cards, who are the top seed in Pool B, begin play Wednesday, in Durham, NC, against the winner of the Duke/Wake Forest “play-in” game. They return to the field on Friday, taking on 19th ranked Clemson, and finish out pool play on Saturday against 8th ranked Virginia. Louisville’s regular season record against Pool B teams is a gaudy 8-1, which is not too shabby, given that Virginia and Clemson are both ranked in the top 20.
If the Cards advance out of pool play, they will play for the conference title on Sunday, against most likely Miami or Florida State.
Looking down the road, it is pretty much a given that Louisville will host a regional at Jim Patterson Stadium the following weekend, regardless of how they fare in the conference tournament.
Looking even farther down the road, if UL advances from its regional, chances are better than not thatthey would also host a super-regional.
Then on to Omaha!
