Cards Drop The Hammer On The Demon Decons

The Cardinals began pool play last night with a 9-5 victory against Wake Forest, overcoming a slow start. Sophomore hurler Cade McClure (13-1) gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in the first inning, but was untouchable after that, striking out 11 batters over 6 innings.

Offensively, the Cards exploded for 3 home runs in the 4th and 5th innings, including back to back blasts by Will Smith and Nick Solak in the fifth, putting the game out of reach. Will Smith added another home run in the 8th inning.

The Cards will rest today, but return to pool play at 11:00 AM on Friday against 12th ranked Clemson. Brendan McCay (11-2) will get the start.
