After suffering a neck injury in the Jets loss to the Vikings on Sunday, former Cardinal Bilal Powell’s career was believed to be over.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles told the media on Wednesday that the season ending injury could prevent Powell from every playing football again.

Fortunately he was wrong and Powell is expected to make a full recovery.

“It was just a misunderstanding of things,” Bowles said on Thursday. “He’s expected to recover fully.”

Powell was hit by Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks on a 2-yard carry with 5:32 left in the quarter. He left the game after the play and did not return.

Although his career isn’t over, his time in New York could be. Powell will be a free agent at the end of the season.

The former Card has spent all eight seasons in the NFL with the Jets. He has accounted for 3,446 yards, 204 receptions for 1,567 yards and 20 total touchdowns.
