The year’s race for NBA Rookie of the Year is as competitive as it’s ever been.
Donovan Mitchell and Ben Simmons are the obvious front-runners for the honor and you could make a strong cause that both are extremely deserving.
With just a few days of the regular season remaining, Simmons was asked about the award. As expected, he feels as if he’s done enough to win, but also threw some shade at his top competitor.
“Who would I pick? Me, 100 percent,” Simmons told ESPN’s Chris Haynes.
There’s nothing wrong with that answer. However, when asked if any other rookie has caught his attention, Simmons took a clear shot at Mitchell.
“None,” Simmons said. “I want to be where the greats are. So, for me, I watch the guys like Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook. Guys like that. That’s where I want to be. I think for me, that’s what I love to watch.”
It didn’t take long for Mitchell to see Simmons comments and respond.
