As most expected, highly coveted five-star combo guard Devin Askew has given Kentucky’s John Calipari a verbal commitment.
Askew made the decision late on Thursday evening, choosing Kentucky over Louisville, Arizona and Memphis.

Losing recruits to John Calipari is something that nearly every coach has to deal with at least once in his tenure at Kentucky. With that said, this is the fist time Louisville’s Chris Mack has gone head-to-head with Calipari for a player. Losing recruits is always a bummer, but it’s even worse when you lose them to your rival.
The fact that Mack and his staff had been in on Askew arguably longer than any other power program is another reason this one is tough to swallow.
Askew is currently projected as a 2021 recruit and his commitment is for the 2021 class, however most national recruiting gurus expect him to reclassify and join Kentucky’s program in 2020. It certainly seems like Askew was sold on the pitch from John Calipari to enroll a year earlier than expected.
This one hurts and there’s no real way to spin it.<
