Long Beach State isn’t exactly who we thought they were. I am assuming when you think of this years 49ers team, you think back to their November 16th 86-76 win over #9 Pittsburgh. LBS was the first mid-major school to make a statement and knock off a top ten team. However, since that big win over Pitt, the 49ers haven’t exactly been the same. LBS is just 1-2 since the Pitt win with a 77-73 overtime loss to San Diego State and a 73-71 loss to Montana on Saturday.
Maybe the 49ers have the same problem as Louisville and just play to the level of their competition. Either way, this won’t be an easy game for the Cards. I know I sound like a broken record, but if Louisville plays anywhere close to the way they have played in the last two games, they will get beat by 20.
Long Beach State Projected Starters
Casper Ware is the guy everyone probably already knows about. Ware was tabbed as a pre-season all american by numerous publications and was the 2011 Big West player of the year. Ware isn’t the only player on the 49ers team that could cause some problems for Louisville. Senior forward T.J. Robinson is averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds. Robinson recently became the schools all time leading rebounder. Senior guard Larry Anderson is having a big season as well averaging 14 points and shooting 40% from downtown. This Long Beach State team is very experienced and talented. How they lost to Montana, I will never understand, but you have to think they will show up to the Yum! Center with something to prove. Vegas has the Cards as a 9.5 point favorite. As much as I hate to say it, I find it tough to think Louisville covers that spread.
