Cardinal Basketball

Today Is The Day

Today is the day. At 4:30 this afternoon, the Louisville Cardinals face the #7 seeded Florida Gators for a spot in the 2012 Final Four. The Gators are coahced by Billy Donovan, who began his coaching career under Pitino as a graduate assistant at Kentucky in 1989-90 and was an assistant coach at Kentucky from 1990-94 before becoming head coach at Marshall. Donovan is 0-6 all time against Rick Pitino

Through Thursday’s games, Louisville ranks second nationally in field goal percentage defense, seventh in steals per game, No. 18 in 3-point field goal percentage defense and 27th in scoring defense. Florida, meanwhile, is No. 1 in 3-point field goals per game, 12th in assist/turnover ratio, 15th in scoring margin and 27th in scoring offense. The Gators are currently listed as a 1.5 point favorite. Playing as the underdog is nothing new to this team and I’m sure it does nothing, motivate them, but I am really really nervous about this game. Louisville without a doubt has the ability to beat this Florida team, but I just think it’s a tougher match-up than most expect.
