Len Elmore and Mike Patrick will be the analysts for tomorrow night’s Louisville vs. Cincinnati match-up. The game will be televised by ESPN at 9 o’clock. Elmore and Patrick aren’t the A-Team of ESPN broadcasters, but as long as we don’t have to hear the likes of Jimmy Dykes, LaPhonso Ellis, Stephen Bardo, or even Doris Burke, you won’t hear me complaining.
If I had the opportunity to hand pick a broadcast crew for each and every Louisville game, I’d personally have to go with Sean McDonough, Jay Bilas, and Bill Raftery. However, they only call games together on Big Monday’s.
Len Elmore was at one time in the upper tier of ESPN broadcasters, but has slipped a little bit over the past few seasons. Mike Patrick has years of experience and has called a few buzzer beaters this season. I honestly think Patrick is better at calling a football game rather than a basketball game. Last year during a Georgia football game, he once said “Georgia, “is pulling a Plaxico (Burress), they just keep shooting themselves.” Ridiculously cheesy, but humorous nonetheless. The awkward silence after he said it is what it made is so funny.
Here is Patrick and Elmore on the call earlier this season as Florida State nails a three at the buzzer to knockoff Duke at Cameron Indoor. Patrick’s “GOT IT” yelp is heard daily on ESPN. Elmore’s reaction made me feel a little uncomfortable to be honest. You can decide for yourself.
