The Johnnies are a team that scare me a little more than some would expect. This is a team that brings back all five starters from last year. This same St. Johns squad absolutely abused the Cards last year 74-55 in Madison Square Garden. According to Coach P, the Red Storm has 10 seniors, but it’s actually more like 8. This team has had somewhat of an up and down season, so far. They lost to St. Bonaventure and Fordham earlier in the season, but have looked pretty solid since starting Big East play. They have a win at West Virginia, a win at home against Georgetown, and split with Notre Dame. The Red Storm are pretty balanced in scoring. Justin Brownlee and Dwight Hardy both average around 15 points a game. They have 8 players that play more than 15 minutes a game.
The main thing about St. John’s that scares me is their experience and how many guys contribute. Due to injuries this might be the first time the Cards face a team that has a little more depth than them. The Cards have not rebounded well in the last couple games, but fortunately the Red Storm are actually a worse rebounding team.
I really expect a big game from Terrence Jennings. His effort at the end of the Marquette game was something we have not seen from him since very early in the season. According to Coach Pitino, Jennings is coming off his best practice as a Louisville Cardinal. I hope Peyton Siva can bounce back from a less than stellar performance against Marquette.
