Louisville sophomore forward Montrezl Harrell has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season.
In two wins, Harrell averaged 17 points and seven rebounds. He finished with 14 points and four rebounds against South Florida. Against Cincinnati on Saturday, Harrell played 39-of-40 minutes, scoring 21-points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
On the season, Harrell is averaging 13 points and eight rebounds.
“Montrezl is really developing into a great basketball player,” Rick Pitino said following the Cincinnati game.
“He came in a runner, a dunker, a shot blocker. The one thing you guys don’t know about Montrezl is he’s one of the brightest guys on our team from a scouting standpoint, from knowing the game. He picks it up right away.”
“He owns up to what’s going wrong. He’s very, very bright. Like Gorgui, he doesn’t need a whole of time to make corrections.”
Louisville will be back in action on Thursday evening when they host Temple.
