With basketball season right around the corner, Dick Vitale, arguably one of the biggest personalities in college basketball history has been making his radio rounds. Vitale joined Matt Jones on Kentucky Sports Radio on Wednesday morning to talk about the upcoming season and also spent some time talking about the Bluegrass rivalry.
One interesting question that Vitale was asked during the interview was if he had ever considered mending the relationship between Rick Pitino and John Calipari, considering he has a great relationship with both coaches. Vitale had an interesting answer to say the least.
“The bottom line is, down deep, when it’s all said and done and they’ve finished coaching, you’re going to see these guys hook up. They really down deep like each other, but it’s the competitiveness that makes them special.
They’re both such fierce competitors and they look at each other as someone that is standing in their way. Somebody who is an obstacle to where they want to get. That’s what it’s all about, it’s about competition and it’s about being the best. These two guys are never satisfied with what they’ve done.”
I can’t say that I feel the same way, Dick….
