Despite Strong’s Request, Ohio State Won’t Be On Louisville’s Schedule Anytime Soon

In a sit down interview with the folks at last week, Louisville head coach Charlie Strong talked about his relationship with his former boss, Urban Meyer, who is now the head coach at Ohio State.

“We talk a lot,” Strong said of his old boss at Florida. “I have asked him to play me. I don’t know if he will. I don’t know if he wants to. But I’d love to.”

Over the past three years, Charlie Strong has been heard numerous times saying that his team will play anybody, anytime and anywhere. Considering how weak this year’s schedule is, 2013 would have been the perfect time to add a big time opponent to the non-conference schedule. Unfortunately, that never developed.

“Before we got in the ACC, I was like, ‘We need to play a big-time opponent … Urban, why don’t you play us?'” Strong said. “He said, ‘Let’s think about that.'”

Coach Strong reportedly suggested a neutral site game at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, about 100 miles from each campus. Despite needing to add two non conference opponents to their schedule in 2015, Ohio State doesn’t appear to be on board with playing Louisville.

Martin Jarmond, the Ohio State associate athletic director says a neutral site game wouldn’t work for 2015 and Louisville has not come up in discussions as a potential opponent.

I don’t think this match-up would turn into a potential rivalry, but a series with Ohio State would be a big time boost for Louisville’s schedule. Once they move to the ACC, the Cards schedule will obviously be much tougher and adding a non conference opponent like the Buckeyes would take it to another level.

  1. I’m pretty sure we would play in Columbus if they would just add us to the schedule. These teams are ridiculous! Just admit you’re scared of us. The fans here in Louisville already know the TRUTH!!!!

  2. Ohio State athletic administration is a yella as the stripes on their surface streets. They should wear them on their backs.

  3. Can’t say I blame them, but come on. Man up Urb.

  4. Perhaps people in Columbus remembers how close a decent Louisville team pranced into OSU and almost won. This breed of Cards is much more dangerous! UK is the only one from a big time Conference silly enough to play us. Those schools prefer we play Boise St,

  5. They know better than lay us taking a loss to us would hurt their national title hopes
