Charlie Strong Adds A Big Time Late Addition To The 2013 Recruiting Class

Hearns Gators

Charlie Strong may want to buy a lottery ticket this weekend. In regards to recruiting, Strong has had one of the best weeks since he’s been here at Louisville. Since Monday, Strong has landed six verbal commitments from the 2014 class.

On Saturday morning he landed a late addition to the 2013 class. James Hearns, a four star middle linebacker has signed a letter of intent with the University of Louisville.

Hearns was a top target for Strong and staff in 2013, however there were always academic concerns. He didn’t sign on national signing day because it was unclear if he’d make the grades in order to qualify in 2013. It’s not official just yet, but since he’s signed a LOI, I’m assuming that his grades good to go.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound, Tallahassee, FL., native had scholarship offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi State, among others. Hearns is rated as the seventh best linebacker in the country according to Rivals.

Most of the big time schools that were in pursuit of Hearns had backed off due to the academic concerns. Charlie Strong and staff’s persistence definitely paid off in a big way.
