According to Brett McMurphy of ESPN, the Big East could soon be changing its name to the “America 12 Conference.”
An official decision has not been made official, but according to McMurphy’s sources, the American 12 appears to be the more popular choice. The league currently is slated to have just 11 members, but is looking into adding a twelfth. Tulsa is reported to be a possible candidate.
It was announced last week the seven current catholic school members will leave the Big East during the summer of 2013 and they’ll take the naming rights with them.
I suppose using “American” is appropriate considering teams from the league will be spread across the entire country. Regardless of what the name is, Louisville will be playing in three different leagues in three consecutive seasons.

Memphis is going to own the new A-12 anyway, along with Uconn and just maybe the Bearcats making it interesting.. Maybe the fedex forum could host the inaugural A-12 Tourney too.. Go TIGERZ GO baby

Very strange how the “Big East” announced the football schedule for the fall, but will the name change take effect before, or after the football season? If before, does the final Big East AQ for the BCS transfer?
