What in the hell happened last night? The team we watched last night wasn’t what we we’re used to seeing and to be honest it’s not something I’d ever like to see again. Louisville just didn’t play well. On defense they were a step slower than usual and couldn’t match Villanova’s energy from start to finish.
Not to sound cliché or act like there isn’t something wrong, but these types of games happen. Even teams that go on to win national championships have off nights. I don’t expect this to make you feel any better, but despite it being their worst performance of the season, had Louisville made a few more free throws they probably still would have won.
Villanova’s resume isn’t very impressive and still have a lot of work to do if they want to make the tournament, but after re-watching the game, my hat goes off to them. Jay Wright’s team played better defense on Louisville than any other opponent this season. Their on ball pressure and physical defense in the post was impressive to say the least.
An interesting stat I saw this morning on Twitter was that this is the fourth consecutive year that Louisville has lost their 19th game of the season. January hasn’t been a great month for the Cards in recent years. The Cards lost three out of four at this time last year before winning six in a row.
Clearly there are some things to be concerned about and I’ll address that on the site later today, but these types of losses happen. This game will be easily forgotten if the Cards can turn it around and get a road win at Georgetown on Saturday.

I’m not so sure. Elite teams, like we thought we were, rarely have games like this. They dominate teams when they are supposed to. It’s troubling to now know that we have the ability to play that poorly.

I CONSIDER LOUISVILLE TO STILL BE A ELITE TEAM NOBODY IS PERFECT!
